Miscellaneous records of an organization established to renovate and operate as a tourist facility the original Minnesota home of Henry Hastings Sibley, Minnesota's first state governor. Included are biographical data on Sibley; typescripts on Indian customs; articles of incorporation and bylaws; legal papers; correspondence (1912) with state and federal officials regarding donation of relics from the battleship Maine; a few reports (1925-1927, 1946); and correspondence, construction documents, drawings, and accounts relating to the construction of the "Fee House" as part of the Sibley House facilities (1926) and the construction within the Fee House of a public tea house (1928).

Maine (Battleship)

USS Maine (BB/2C), an armored battle ship, was blown up in Havana Harbor on February 15, 1898. A court of inquiry was unable to obtain evidence regarding the cause of the ship's destruction. In August 1910, Congress authorized the raising of the ship. The hull was refloated and towed into the Gulf of Mexico where it was sunk with honors on March 16, 1912. A. O. Eberhart was born in Kil Varmland, Sweden (June 23, 1870), the son of Andrew and Louise Olson. Because of bad economic conditions, Andrew, Louis and all of the family except Adolph emigrated to St. Peter, Minnesota. In 1882, Adolph joined the family there.
